“CBT aims to help you change the way you think (cognitive) and what you do (behaviour). Rather than looking at past causes, it focuses on current problems and practical solutions to help you feel better now.
The way we think about situations affects the way we feel and behave. If we view a situation negatively, we may experience negative emotions and feelings which lead us to behave in an unhelpful way. Your therapist will help you identify and challenge any negative thinking so you can deal with situations better and behave in a more positive way.”
On your first session you will be introduced to the CBT process and the assessment stage will begin.
During this stage we will gather information about what your mental health concerns are, what is keeping them going and how you are coping at the moment.
From this information we will create a treatment plan for your therapy. Once this is agreed with yourself we will move forward and help you learn to be your own therapist.
All of our therapists are fully qualified cognitive behavioural therapists and follow the ethical rules of BABCP, BACP or COSCA governing bodies.
More information about your therapist can be discussed on your first session.
